Jane Kadohiro
Jane Kadohiro was selected as the 2017 recipient of the Steve Bieringer “Keep on Trucking” Award. A lifelong advocate for people with diabetes and diabetes health care professional, Jane received the award at the 2018 Call to Congress.
Jane has worked for over 30 years as a diabetes advocate in Hawaii and Nevada. She was the advocacy chair in Hawaii for 15 years and recruited hundreds of advocates to support the ADA mission. She chaired the Hawaii Safe at School committee and championed ADA’s Safe at School legislation, working to help legislators understand the needs of students with diabetes and schools to better understand diabetes. Not only did Jane recruit other health care providers, people with diabetes, her patients, and families of children with diabetes to join her advocacy efforts, but she also taught diabetes advocacy to her students at the University of Hawaii so that future health care providers would be advocates for their patients with diabetes.
Jane is a tireless advocate who embodies all the things the Steve Bieringer “Keep on Trucking” award stands for. She does not know the meaning of the word defeat. When things get tough, she just gets angry and works harder, recruits more help, and gets the job done!
