Safe at School Virtual Parent Workshops 2021 

These workshops provide parents/guardians and other caregivers with an overview of Safe at School, a basic understanding of legal protections and the importance of written care plans, access to Safe at School resources, and recommended next steps to ensure students with diabetes receive appropriate diabetes care and are treated fairly at school.

California Supreme Court Diabetes Care Ruling

Held July 9, 2014

In August 2013, the California Supreme Court issued a landmark ruling on diabetes care in California public schools that is helping to knock down barriers that have impacted children with diabetes getting the insulin they need in school. This webinar provides a detailed explanation of the ruling and its reasoning, as well as federal laws that protect the rights of these students and strategies to help them. Presenters included: Michael McCabe, Esq/San Francisco, CA; Brian Dimmick, Esq/American Diabetes Association Director of Litigation; Lisa Murdock/American Diabetes Association Managing Director of State Government Affairs.

Know Your Rights for College Students with Diabetes

Held February 5, 2014

Jointly hosted by the American Diabetes Association and the College Diabetes Network, covering the rights of college students who have diabetes, how the Disabilities Services Office can help and how students can advocate for themselves. Presenters included staff members of the American Diabetes Association and College Diabetes Network. This session is available to students with diabetes preparing to attend/attending college, parents/guardians, college administrators and anyone interested in the fair treatment of students who have diabetes.

The College Diabetes Network (CDN) is a national 501c3 non-profit organization, whose mission is to empower and improve the lives of students living with type 1 diabetes through peer support and access to information and resources.

In addition to connecting students affected by diabetes on campuses across the country, CDN provides information and resources for the parents of young adults with diabetes. Visit www.collegediabetesnetwork.org for more information.
