Diabetes Care Tasks at School

UPDATED! Safe at School® Training Curriculum: Diabetes Care Tasks at School: What Key Personnel Need to Know

About the curriculum

The American Diabetes Association®'s (ADA) Diabetes Care Tasks at School: What Key Personnel Need to Know is a 19-module training curriculum. Each module provides a PowerPoint slide deck containing key information about a specific diabetes care task. A post-quiz is available at the end of each module.

This curriculum is intended to be used with the ADA’s free Helping the Student with Diabetes Succeed: A Guide for School Personnel. If at all possible, this guide should be reviewed prior to training and used in conjunction with the modules.

The school nurse and/or pediatric diabetes health care professional should use these modules to train non-clinical school staff to perform diabetes care tasks. These modules focus specifically on how diabetes care should be done in the school setting and may also be used to train caregivers in the child care, camp, and other settings. Each PowerPoint slide deck contains detailed talking points for the presenter to use that are accessible in the "Notes" view.

The modules may also be presented at school staff and parent meetings to increase diabetes awareness and to provide information and guidance on how to meet the diabetes management needs of children.
