“I am proud to be part of an organization dedicated to preventing and curing diabetes and improving the lives of all people affected by diabetes. Our mission drives everything we do, from advancing research to advocating for those affected. It is an honor to be part of the State of Diabetes program, which will be very impactful and create a healthier future for our communities,” said Deanie Eldridge, the ADA’s executive director in Virginia and West Virginia.

Over 40 million Americans are living with diabetes, and every 21 seconds, someone is newly diagnosed. In Virginia, approximately 892,000 adults, or 11.4% of the adult population, have diagnosed diabetes. Each year, an estimated 52,000 adults in the state are diagnosed. Additionally, approximately 34% of the adult population is living with obesity. State of Diabetes is an annual community program that brings together employers, payers, healthcare professionals, and community leaders for meaningful discussions around diabetes and obesity prevention, treatment, cost, workplace wellness, and improving access to care.

This year’s event will feature an expert panel discussion: From Diabetes & Obesity Guidelines to Outcomes: Translating Evidence into Real-World Practice.
