“State of Diabetes: Indiana is an essential event for employers, health care professionals and community members interested in the health and welfare of all Hoosiers living with diabetes and/or obesity. We invite everyone to attend, network, exchange ideas and learn about new solutions to create healthier tactics and lower costs,” said Sarah Schmitz, the ADA’s executive director in Indiana.

Over 40 million Americans are living with diabetes, and every 21 seconds, someone is newly diagnosed. In Indiana, approximately 764,000 adults, or 12.7% of the adult population, have diagnosed diabetes. Each year, an estimated 55,000 adults in the state are diagnosed. Additionally, approximately 38% of the adult population are living with obesity. State of Diabetes is an annual community event that brings together employers, payers, healthcare professionals, and community leaders for meaningful discussions around diabetes and obesity prevention, treatment, cost, workplace wellness, and improving access to care.

This year’s event will feature an expert panel discussion: From Diabetes & Obesity Guidelines to Outcomes: Translating Evidence Into Real-World Practice.

The event will include:

  • A panel discussion led by distinguished experts sharing insights on diabetes and obesity
  • A networking reception providing opportunities for attendees to collaborate and share ideas
  • A roundtable discussion designed to encourage deeper engagement on diabetes- and obesity-related topics
  • The opportunity to connect during a pre-event mixer for ADA professional members or those interested in learning more about ADA professional membership

Attendees will also receive a variety of ADA resources designed to enhance diabetes prevention, management, and support, as well as access to a digital action-oriented toolkit summarizing key insights and strategies.

This year’s event is sponsored by Eli Lilly and Company, and Humana.

“At Humana, our primary focus is the health of both our members and the communities we support,” said DaWana Stubbs, MD, chief medical officer for Humana Healthy Horizons of Indiana. “We are dedicated to providing integrated health care solutions and addressing the social determinants that influence health outcomes, particularly for those managing chronic conditions such as diabetes. Through strong collaborations with our provider network, we ensure our members receive consistent screenings and effective chronic disease management.
