“In Greater Philadelphia, nearly 1 in every 7 adults has diagnosed diabetes, a condition that not only impacts individuals, but also places a strain on families, healthcare systems, and employers. With the prevalence of both type 1 and type 2 diabetes rising, we must come together as a community to raise awareness, promote healthier lifestyles, and provide the necessary resources for prevention and management. Our goal is to ensure that all residents have access to the tools they need to live healthier, more fulfilling lives,” said Kate Kosarek, the ADA’s executive director in Philadelphia.
Over 40 million Americans are living with diabetes, and every 21 seconds, someone is newly diagnosed. In Pennsylvania, approximately 1,385,000 adults, or 11.6% of the adult population, have diagnosed diabetes. Each year, an estimated 91,000 adults in the state are diagnosed. Additionally, approximately 34% of the adult population are living with obesity. State of Diabetes is an annual community event that brings together employers, payers, healthcare professionals, and community leaders for meaningful discussions around diabetes and obesity prevention, treatment, and cost; workplace wellness; and improving access to care.
This year’s event will feature an expert panel discussion: Diabetes in the Workplace: Supporting Employees and Reducing Costs.
The event will include:
- A panel discussion led by distinguished experts sharing insights on diabetes
- Two real-world case studies with measurable results
- A networking lunch providing opportunities for attendees to collaborate and share ideas
Attendees will also receive a variety of ADA resources designed to enhance diabetes prevention, management, and support, as well as access to a digital action-oriented toolkit summarizing key insights and strategies.
This year’s event is sponsored by Abacus Health Solutions and Independence Blue Cross.
