I was diagnosed with diabetes on January 24, 2020. At the time I was in 8th grade. It started with me getting a concussion, then I got the flu, and while I was in the emergency room for the flu, I was told I am a type 1 diabetic. I had no symptoms of it at all. My parents and grandparents are type 2, but I am one of the only type 1 diabetics in my family. Learning how to give myself insulin and check my blood sugars was hard because I was and still am scared of needles. I have an amazing support group of friends and family who have helped me through this journey.
