Advocacy Overview

Transforming Lives with Action

Our advocacy efforts include supporting government funding for diabetes research and programs, improving access to affordable medications and technologies, ensuring access to health care, supporting insulin affordability, preventing type 2 diabetes, fighting discrimination, and much more.

We bring the everyday stories and struggles of people with diabetes directly to members of Congress. Diabetes is a growing epidemic that cannot be ignored, so when bills are introduced on the federal or state level that positively affect people with diabetes, we are among the first to show support. We fight to support funding for diabetes research and programs to prevent, manage, and cure this terrible disease. We work to make insulin affordable and ensure quality health care is available to everyone. And we protect people who are discriminated against because of their diabetes.

Our message is amplified through the voice of our advocates. No one knows the true cost of diabetes better than those who manage it every day. Have you considered the skyrocketing costs of insulin and having to choose between paying for it—to live—or paying for groceries? How about the fear of losing your job because you’ve had one too many hypoglycemic episodes at work, or having to leave your job to administer insulin to your child at school? Many Americans don’t even have access to adequate health care, and we believe health equity is a human right. These are just a few examples of the MANY obstacles people with diabetes face daily.
