Panelists to Discuss How Obesity & Social Determinants Affect the Cost of Diabetes

The American Diabetes Association® (ADA) is proud to host its inaugural State of Diabetes: Charlotte on World Diabetes Day, November 14, at Northeastern University, in Charlotte, NC.

"At the American Diabetes Association, we believe empowering our communities is essential in the fight to end diabetes. This panel event brings together leaders, advocates, and health professionals to share knowledge and strategies that can transform lives. By working together, we can create healthier environments and inspire individuals to take charge of their health, ultimately reducing the impact of these chronic diseases in our communities,” said Deanie Eldridge, the ADA’s executive director in North Carolina and Virginia.

In North Carolina, approximately 1,055,400 adults, or 12.4% of the adult population, have been diagnosed with diabetes. Each year, an estimated 50,200 adults in North Carolina are diagnosed. The annual State of Diabetes event serves as a pivotal gathering, uniting employers, industry leaders, health care providers, and community experts. On a shared platform, professionals engage with an expert panel in critical discussions on how to leverage ADA resources to address the contemporary landscape of diabetes and the financial impact on employers and employees. Discussions are followed by a networking session.

Novant Health is the Platinum Sponsor of this year’s 2024 Charlotte State of Diabetes event.

“I’m honored to serve as the executive chair of the American Diabetes Association’s 2024 Charlotte State of Diabetes Symposium and be part of the movement to end diabetes. With millions of people living with diabetes, we are proud to be a part of this event to help our workplaces and communities achieve better health and thrive in their lives,” said Seb Girard, Chief People & Belonging Officer, Novant Health.

Over 38 million Americans are living with diabetes, and with health care costs at an all-time high, people with diagnosed diabetes have on average 2.6 times higher medical expenditures than those without. This year’s esteemed panelists will share their expert perspectives on How do Obesity & Social Determinants Affect the Cost of Diabetes.

Registration is free and open to human resources professionals, corporations, and community-based organizations. To learn more and register, visit diabetes.org/sodcharlotte. Media interested in previewing the event can schedule an interview by emailing press@diabetes.org
