“At the American Diabetes Association, we believe that engaging our communities is essential in the fight to end diabetes. Tour de Cure is a great example of the incredible impact our community can have on the ADA’s vision of a life free of diabetes and all its burdens. We are so proud to ride alongside hundreds of passionate riders, our dedicated volunteers, and generous sponsors like Abbott and Wintrust, who believe that every mile brings us closer to a world without diabetes, and that together, we can inspire hope and change lives,” said Megyn Byrnes, the ADA’s executive director in the Illinois market.
Nationwide, over 40 million people have diabetes, and every 21 seconds, someone new is diagnosed. Approximately 1,263,000 adults in Illinois, or 11.4% of the adult population, have diagnosed diabetes. Every year, an estimated 98,000 adults in Illinois are diagnosed with diabetes.
By joining Tour de Cure: Chicagoland, participants are helping the ADA increase diabetes awareness, provide vital programs, fund lifesaving research, and work toward a cure.
In addition to the ride, participants are invited to enjoy the following in celebration of the ADA’s mission:
- Wellness village and diabetes resources
- Kids’ zone including facepainting, balloon animals, games, and more
- Food truck and beer garden
- Music and entertainment
