Panelists to Discuss How Diabetes Impacts the Local Workforce

The American Diabetes Association® (ADA) is proud to once again host its annual State of Diabetes: Atlanta on World Diabetes Day, November 14, at Campus 244 of the Nolan Transportation Group in Dunwoody, GA.

“We look forward to providing a space for the diabetes community to gather and discuss innovative ways we can, together, continue improving outcomes for some of the most vulnerable members of our community through this year’s event,” said Ciarra McEachin, the ADA’s executive director of Georgia, Alabama, and South Carolina.

In Georgia, over 1 million adults, or 12.1% of the adult population, have diagnosed diabetes. Each year, an estimated 50,000 adults in Georgia are diagnosed. The annual State of Diabetes event serves as a pivotal gathering, uniting employers, industry leaders, health care providers, and community experts. On a shared platform, professionals engage with an expert panel in critical discussions on how to leverage ADA resources to address the contemporary landscape of diabetes and the financial impact on employers and employees. Discussions are followed by a networking session.

This year’s event boasts sponsor support from Sonder Health Plans, Centene Health (Peach State Health Plans and Wellcare), Northside Hospital, Centerwell Primary Care, Wellstar, Elevance Health, and many others.

“As a health care organization dedicated to improving lives, we at Sonder Health are incredibly proud to support the American Diabetes Association’s annual State of Diabetes event. Diabetes continues to impact millions of lives, and by sponsoring this important initiative, we aim to raise awareness, empower individuals with the resources they need, and ultimately contribute to a healthier future for all. We have some amazing benefits for seniors that are impacted by this illness, such as $0 for insulin; excellent grocery benefits; comprehensive dental, hearing, and vision benefits; and so much more to ensure they are living their absolute best in their golden years,” said Suzanna Roberts, CEO of Sonder Health. “Together, we can make a meaningful difference in the fight to end diabetes.”

Over 38 million Americans are living with diabetes, and with health care costs at an all-time high, people with diagnosed diabetes have on average 2.6 times higher medical expenditures than those without. This year’s esteemed panelists will share their expert perspectives on the trajectory of diabetes in the state of Georgia.

Registration is free and open to human resources professionals, corporations, and community-based organizations. To learn more and register, visit diabetes.org/sodatlanta. Media interested in previewing the event can schedule an interview by emailing press@diabetes.org
