Panelists to Discuss Addressing the Cost of Diabetes and Obesity on Employers and Our Community

The American Diabetes Association® (ADA) is proud to once again host its annual State of Diabetes: Birmingham during American Diabetes Month® on November 13 at the Birmingham Botanical Gardens in Birmingham, AL.

“We look forward to providing a space for the diabetes community to gather and discuss innovative ways we can, together, continue improving outcomes for some of the most vulnerable members of our community through this year’s event,” said Ciarra McEachin, the ADA’s executive director of Georgia, Alabama, and South Carolina.

In Alabama, approximately 15% of the adult population have diagnosed diabetes. Each year, an estimated 23,500 adults in Alabama are diagnosed. The annual State of Diabetes event serves as a pivotal gathering, uniting employers, industry leaders, health care providers, and community experts. On a shared platform, professionals engage with an expert panel in critical discussions on how to leverage ADA resources to address the contemporary landscape of diabetes and the financial impact on employers and employees. Discussions are followed by a networking session.

This year’s event boasts sponsor support from Lilly, Genentech, Anthem Blue Cross, Blue Shield of Alabama, Sanofi, ProAssurance, Thompson Cat, Forge Ahead, Vulcan Materials, Coca-Cola Bottling Company, among many others.

Over 38 million Americans are living with diabetes, and with health care costs at an all-time high, people with diagnosed diabetes have on average 2.6 times higher medical expenditures than those without. This year’s esteemed panelists will share their expert perspectives on addressing the cost of diabetes and obesity on employers and our community.

Registration is free and open to human resources professionals, corporations, and community-based organizations. To learn more and register, visit diabetes.org/sodbirmingham. Media interested in previewing the event can schedule an interview by emailing press@diabetes.org
