The 80th Scientific Sessions will be held online June 12-16, 2020

The American Diabetes Association® (ADA) is excited to announce that the 80th Scientific Sessions will be transformed into a virtual conference! The meeting will be held online on June 12-16, 2020. We have shifted the format out of an abundance of caution and in the interest of protecting our employees and participants, many of whom have one or more factors that place them in the “higher risk” category for COVID-19. ADA’s leadership has determined that a virtual experience is the best way to ensure that our entire community of students, researchers, health care professionals, patient advocates and media representatives are able to safely attend the world’s largest scientific meeting focused on diabetes research, prevention and care.

COVID-19 won’t stop the 80th Scientific Sessions. In fact, we’re using this as an opportunity to make this year’s sessions more powerful than ever! The online Scientific Sessions will include:

  • 190 virtual sessions and award lectures, including the first reported findings from the eValuation of ERTugliflozin Efficacy and Safety CardioVascular Outcomes Trial (VERTIS-CV) and new data from the:
    • Dapagliflozin in Patients with Heart Failure and Reduced Ejection Fraction (DAPA-HF) trial,
    • Diabetes Prevention Program Outcomes Study (DPPOS),
    • The Environmental Determinants of Diabetes in the Young (TEDDY) study, and
    • SEARCH for Diabetes in Youth Study;
  • Over 1,800 regular and late-breaking posters in our virtual Poster Hall;
  • A virtual Exhibit Hall and Product Theater, showcasing products and services that will enhance your understanding of the latest ground-breaking technology and resources;
  • Continuing Education credit opportunities for physicians, international physicians, physician assistants, nurses, pharmacists, dietitians and certified diabetes care and education specialists (CDCES);
  • Virtual receptions and much more.

“We’ve come a long way since the ADA hosted its first Scientific Sessions meeting in 1941—with only 300 participants,” said Jose C. Florez, MD, PhD, Committee Chair for the ADA’s Scientific Sessions Meeting Planning Committee. “Though we are disappointed that we will not have the opportunity to provide in-person networking and engagement opportunities for the over 12,000 attendees we anticipated joining us in Chicago, please know that we are committed to providing the best possible experience for all of our attendees and friends in the diabetes community. At the end of the day, the science and research advances are what matter most—they are what will help us bring down diabetes once and for all—and we are committed to sharing those advances with the world, despite the spread of COVID-19.”
