Panelists to Discuss Building More Resilient Communities: Strategies to Prevent and Manage Chronic Conditions

The American Diabetes Association® (ADA) is proud to host its annual State of Diabetes: Redwood City on November 15, during American Diabetes Month®, at the Grand Bay Hotel in Redwood City, CA.

"State of Diabetes is an opportunity to share knowledge and foster connections so we can empower individuals and transform the landscape of diabetes care and prevention. With more than 3.5 million Californians living with diabetes, we need leaders across all sectors of health care and within organizations to take an active role in the fight to end diabetes,” said Valerie Kovacovich, the ADA’s executive director, development (Northern California).

In CA, approximately 3,578,900 adults, or 11.7% of the adult population, have diagnosed diabetes. Each year, an estimated 179,800 adults in CA are diagnosed. The annual State of Diabetes event serves as a pivotal gathering, uniting employers, industry leaders, health care providers, and community experts. On a shared platform, professionals engage with an expert panel in critical discussions on how to leverage ADA resources to address the contemporary landscape of diabetes and the financial impact on employers and employees. Discussions are followed by a networking session.

State of Diabetes: Redwood City is made possible by national sponsors, Lilly and DaVita, and local sponsor, Sutter Health.

“At DaVita, we are committed to accelerating our communities towards a healthier tomorrow. We are honored to be a presenting sponsor of State of Diabetes: Redwood City to reinforce our dedication to foster important conversations about addressing the barriers and issues facing patients in today’s health landscape,” said David Shih, DaVita regional operations director.

“Sutter Health is incredibly proud to participate in the American Diabetes Association State of Diabetes event, bringing together industry leaders who share our commitment to improving the lives of those living with diabetes,” said Jill Thomas, Vice President of Operations, Sutter Health Mills-Peninsula Medical Center. “We remain dedicated to leveraging innovation and collaboration to support our patients and communities in their journey toward better health. This event provides a valuable opportunity to exchange ideas, learn best practices, and explore innovative solutions to help individuals manage the disease more effectively.”

Over 38 million Americans are living with diabetes, and with health care costs at an all-time high, people with diagnosed diabetes have on average 2.6 times higher medical expenditures than those without. This year’s esteemed panelists will share their expert perspectives on Building More Resilient Communities: Strategies to Prevent and Manage Chronic Conditions.

Registration is free and open to human resources professionals, corporations, and community-based organizations. To learn more and register, visit diabetes.org/leadersforumsod. Media interested in previewing the event can schedule an interview by emailing press@diabetes.org
