Panelists to discuss the hidden costs of diabetes and how we can address them

The American Diabetes Association® (ADA) is proud to host its inaugural State of Diabetes: Twin Cities on World Diabetes Day, November 14, at the International Diabetes Center in St. Louis Park, Minnesota.

“The State of Diabetes program is a vital initiative aimed at educating employers about the risks, impacts, and costs associated with diabetes. By participating in State of Diabetes, employers can ultimately contribute to a healthier workplace and community by reducing the overall impact of diabetes,” says Stephanie Camalo, ADA executive director, Upper Midwest.

In Minnesota, approximately 399,700 adults, or 9% of the adult population, have diagnosed diabetes. Each year, an estimated 26,200 adults in Minnesota are diagnosed. The annual State of Diabetes event serves as a pivotal gathering, uniting employers, industry leaders, health care providers, and community experts. On a shared platform, professionals engage with an expert panel in critical discussions on how to leverage ADA resources to address the contemporary landscape of diabetes and the financial impact on employers and employees. Discussions are followed by a networking session.

This year’s State of Diabetes: Twin Cities is sponsored by Genentech, Novo Nordisk, Abbott, and the UCare Foundation.

More than 38 million Americans are living with diabetes, and with health care costs at an all-time high, people with diagnosed diabetes incur on average 2.6 times higher medical expenses than those without the diagnosis. This year’s esteemed panelists will share their expert perspectives on the hidden costs of diabetes and how we can address them.

Registration is free and open to employers and health care providers. To learn more and register, visit diabetes.org/sodtwincities. Media interested in previewing the event can schedule an interview by emailing press@diabetes.org
